(Updated) Microsoft Teams: New features to improve user app adoption
Category:Microsoft Teams
Nummer:MC898393
Status:stayInformed

Updated November 5, 2024: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

We are excited to announce two new features in the Teams Store that will help users discover and adopt apps in Microsoft Teams. These enhancements are designed to streamline how users find and engage with apps in Teams. This message applies to Teams on the web and Teams for Windows and Mac desktops.

[When this will happen:]

Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out early November 2024 (previously late October) and expect to complete by mid-November 2024 (previously mid-November).

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-November 2024 (previously mid-October) and expect to complete by late November 2024 (previously late October).

[How this will affect your organization:]

Before this rollout: Users do not have good visibility into the apps that are preinstalled by admins, and many apps are lost in the three-dot menu on the left side of Teams. We provide recommendations for apps that are popular in a user’s tenant. In large tenants, these recommendations are not as helpful, because they are not personalized for each user.

After this rollout, the key updates to the Teams Store in the left of Teams will be:

  1. Added by your org: You can preinstall a curated collection of apps through policy settings in the Teams admin center. This collection will appear in a dedicated section of the Teams Store called Added by your org to help ensure that any app installed through the Teams admin center or Graph APIs is easily accessible users, for better visibility and usage of key tools. Learn more: Preinstall Teams apps for your org users – Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn. Note: The Added by your org section will not appear if admins take no action.
  2. Trending with your peers: Personalized app recommendations will appear to users in a dedicated section of the Teams Store based on the apps used by their frequent collaborators, making it easier for users to discover apps relevant to their daily workflows.

Admins can configure the collection of apps in Teams admin center > Teams apps > Setup policies > App setup policies > Global > Installed apps:

admin controls

The user view of Added by your org in the Teams Store:

user view

The user view of Trending with your peers in the Teams store.

user view

These features are on by default.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Review the apps currently preinstalled through policy settings in the Teams admin center. Ensure that critical apps are installed and available for discovery in the new Added by your org collection in the Teams Store. You do not need to take any action for the Trending with your peers section in the Teams Store.

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation.

(Updated) Microsoft Defender XDR: InitiatingProcessFolderPath changes to include file names
Category:Microsoft Defender XDR
Nummer:MC906487
Status:planForChange

Updated November 5, 2024: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Coming soon: Microsoft Defender for Endpoint will modify the InitiatingProcessFolderPath column across all relevant Advanced Hunting tables to include the initiating process file name. This message applies to Windows activity only.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will roll out to all Microsoft Defender for Endpoint customers on November 18, 2024 (previously November 4).

[How this will affect your organization:]

Before this rollout, the InitiatingProcessFolderPath column is inconsistent across action types. Some columns include the file name, and other columns do not include the file name.

After the rollout, all Microsoft Defender for Endpoint action types across all tables will report the full path including the file name of the initiating process in the InitiatingProcessFolderPath column.

Consider the following example to be the new normal, InitiatingProcessFolderPath == c:\temp\file.exe

An example of a possible current implementation that will be retired with this change: InitiatingProcessFolderPath == c:\temp\

Custom detection rules and queries considering the InitiatingProcessFolderPath may be affected.

If you know your custom detection rules or Advanced Hunting queries include this column, please modify them to consider the new convention:

  • To modify your custom detection rules, go to the Defender portal > Investigation & response > Hunting > Custom detection rules
  • To modify other Advanced Hunting queries, go to the Defender portal > Investigation & response > Hunting > Advanced hunting

To learn more, go to the Shema reference button in the top right of the Advanced hunting page.

This change is on by default.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Before November 4, 2024, map your affected custom detection rules and KQL functions and prepare a fix. Where possible, we recommend updating your queries before the release.

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date. You may want to notify your admins about this change and update any relevant documentation.

Microsoft Viva Pulse: New Pulse tenant admin dashboard for users with Pulse admin access
Category:Microsoft Viva
Nummer:MC907535
Status:planForChange

Updated November 5, 2024: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Human Resources and IT departments need a way to track user telemetry and usage to ensure that Microsoft Viva Pulse is being used effectively and has a strong return on investment. They also want to identify any issues related to user adoption that hinder the rollout of Pulse in an organization. With the rollout of the tenant admin dashboard, Pulse admins will be able to visualize usage metrics in their tenant. This rollout will include metrics such as total pulses sent, response rate per pulse, and responses per pulse.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early November 2024 (previously late October) and expect to complete by mid-November 2024 (previously early November).

[How this will affect your organization:]

Before this rollout, the Pulse tenant admin dashboard does not exist, and Pulse admins are not able to visualize and measure their Pulse usage and return on investment.

After this rollout, the tenant admin dashboard’s initial release will include these metrics:

  1. Total pulses sent: The number of pulses sent in a specified time period
  2. Response Rate: Response rate per pulse, averaged across all pulses sent in a specified time period
  3. Responses per pulse: Average responses per pulse in a specified time period

The tenant admin dashboard will be on by default.

admin controls

(Updated) Microsoft new Outlook for Windows and Outlook for the web: Changing how to disable/enable
Category:Exchange Online Microsoft 365 for the web Microsoft 365 apps
Nummer:MC922623
Status:planForChange

Updated November 5, 2024: We have updated the content. Thank you for your patience.

We are changing how you enable or disable the new Microsoft Outlook for Windows and Microsoft Outlook for the web.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We will begin rolling out late January 2025 and expect to complete by mid-February 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

We’re changing the CASMailbox –OWAEnabled parameter that enables or disables access to user mailboxes using Outlook for the web (formerly known as Outlook Web App or OWA) to block only Outlook for the web and to not affect the behavior of new Outlook for Windows.

You can manage new Outlook for Windows with the CASMailbox-OneWinNativeOutlookEnabled policy.

You are receiving this message because our reporting indicates one or more users in your organization may be using the New Outlook for Windows.

Note: We will not change any existing value for the settings, but we will change which setting is checked to see if new Outlook for Windows is allowed to run on that computer. Before this rollout, both CASMailbox-OWAEnabled and CASMailboxOneWinNativeOutlookEnabled policies are checked. After this rollout, we will remove the check for CASMailbox-OWAEnabled so you can have the chance to enable new Outlook and still disable Outlook for the web if desired.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. Review your current configuration to determine the impact for your organization. You may want to notify your admins about this change and update any relevant documentation.

After this change takes effect, please confirm the CASMailbox OneWinNativeOutlookEnabled policy state for each mailbox. The default value is Enabled.

Windows Autopatch: Groups device deregistration enhancements
Category:Windows Autopatch
Nummer:MC926192
Status:planForChange

On January 8, 2025, we are introducing an enhancement in Autopatch groups device management to improve the synchronization reliability between devices in Microsoft Entra groups assigned to Autopatch groups and the devices targeted via Autopatch groups. This update will ensure that any changes made by admins in Entra groups assigned to Autopatch groups are accurately reflected in Windows Autopatch-registered devices.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will roll out on January 8, 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

With this feature update, if a device that was previously added to an Autopatch group is using an Entra group (via Assigned groups or Dynamic distribution method) is removed from the Entra group, then the device will be removed and de-registered from the Autopatch service. Consequently, the removed device will no longer have any service-created policies applied to it and will not appear in the Autopatch devices reports.

Similarly, new devices added to the Entra groups assigned to an Autopatch group will be added to the Autopatch devices report and will have policies applied to them as required. Admins can review the added devices in the Windows Autopatch devices report.

Note: Please expect 3 hours latency for the changes to be reflected in the service and reports.

This feature update will be available by default.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

If you have removed any devices from an Autopatch group, they will be fully de-registered from the service. If you wish to continue using Autopatch for these devices, please ensure they are correctly added to Autopatch groups via the Entra groups. Please note that once synchronization is enabled with this improvement, the changes cannot be reverted. This will not affect your ability to add devices to the service; you can always add more devices to an Autopatch group as needed. If you have any questions or concerns or need assistance, file a service request by visiting the Microsoft Intune admin center.

Microsoft Syntex pay-as-you-go service: Simple document processing prebuilt model
Category:SharePoint Online
Nummer:MC926194
Status:stayInformed

Coming soon to Microsoft Syntex pay-as-you-go service is a new prebuilt model that uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and AI to detect the primary language of the file, key-value pairs, tables, selection marks, and barcodes. As with other models, it can be configured to extract this information to specified library columns.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 413430.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-November 2024 and expect to complete by late November 2024.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Users will be able to easily configure and apply a model to detect import elements of information in the document, including the primary language of the file text and barcodes.

This is another prebuilt model, in addition to contracts, receipts, and invoices, and is available via the same service. If the prebuilt service is on, this new model will also appear in the menu.

Once enabled, users will be able to create, configure, and apply this model in the same manner as other prebuilt models.

Entra ID: Expansion of WhatsApp as an MFA one-time passcode delivery channel
Category:Microsoft Entra
Nummer:MC926195
Status:planForChange

In late 2023, Microsoft Entra started leveraging WhatsApp as an alternate channel to deliver multifactor authentication (MFA) one-time passcodes (OTPs) to users in India and Indonesia. We saw improved deliverability, completion rates, and satisfaction when leveraging the channel in both countries. The channel was temporarily disabled in India in early 2024. Starting early December 2024, we will be re-enabling the channel in India and expanding its use to additional countries.

[When this will happen:]

Starting December 2024, users in India and other countries may start receiving MFA text messages via WhatsApp. Only users that are enabled to receive MFA text messages as an authentication method and already have WhatsApp on their phone will get this experience. If a user with WhatsApp on their device is unreachable or doesn’t have internet connectivity, they will quickly fall back to the regular SMS channel. In addition, users receiving OTPs via WhatsApp for the first time will be notified of the change in behavior via SMS text message.

The sender agent in WhatsApp where users will see the OTPs will be branded as Microsoft with a verified checkmark.

- KbWorks - SharePoint & Teams Specialist

[How this will affect your organization:]

If you’re a Microsoft Entra workforce customer and currently leverage the text-message authentication method, we recommend you notify your helpdesk about this upcoming change.

Additionally, if you don’t want your users to receive MFA text messages through WhatsApp, you may disable text messages as an authentication method in your organization. Please note that we highly encourage organizations move to using more modern, secure methods like Microsoft Authenticator and passkeys in favor of telecom and messaging app methods.

This feature update is available by default.

For more information, see Phone authentication methods in Entra ID.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

This rollout will happen automatically with no admin action required. You may want to notify your users about this change and update any relevant documentation as appropriate.

To streamline and simplify the experience for our users, we are relocating plugins to the right pane of Copilot (same location as other agent experiences) from their current location. Plugins will now have their own focused chat experience and will also be referenced as “agents” ahead.

RW1qrVT?ver=9b55 - KbWorks - SharePoint & Teams Specialist

This update applies to the Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences for Desktop and Web across the Microsoft 365 app (Office) and Teams. This will be followed by Copilot in Word, Copilot in PowerPoint, Copilot in Microsoft Teams Meeting and Copilot on Teams mobile ahead.

Web content toggle that defines user’s preference on Copilot accessing the web for responses is moving to the “…” menu at the top of the screen as referenced below. The same control will now also be accessible in web mode.

- KbWorks - SharePoint & Teams Specialist
This web content toggle update applies to the Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences for Desktop and Web across the Microsoft 365 app, Teams, Outlook, and Edge sidebar. Please note, the update on mobile will follow.

[When will this happen:]

We’ll begin rolling out these updates in late November 2024 and expect them to be completed by January 2025.

[How will this affect your organization:]

Users will find all their installed agents (including plugins) in the same location (right side pane within Copilot) for a focused chat experience with agents and plugins. Web content control will move to the “…” menu at the top of the screen but continue to work the same way.

You can manage your agent settings for Copilot using Integrated Apps. Find more details on Declarative agents for Microsoft 365 Copilot overview.

[What should you do to prepare for this change:]

This post is to inform admins that we’re making the discovery and management of agents simpler and coherent for end-users by unifying experiences for different types of Copilot agents in the product. No action is needed.
