Office 365 Roadmap Updated: 2024-11-14

Items from the MessageCenter in Microsoft 365

(Updated) Contact Unification across Outlook and Teams
Category:Exchange Online Microsoft Teams
Nummer:MC695487
Status:stayInformed

Updated November 12, 2024: We have updated the content and rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Today, users can see Outlook contacts created with their Entra ID (AAD) account in Teams, but contacts created in Teams are not available in Outlook. To provide a consistent experience we are making changes to allow Teams contacts, created with a user’s Entra ID (AAD) account, to be visible in Outlook as well.

Upcoming changes to contacts in Teams and Outlook:

Currently, Teams and Outlook maintain separate contact lists for enterprise users. Based on your feedback, we plan to introduce a unified contact experience, ensuring a consistent contacts experience across Outlook and Teams. In future, changes to contacts in users’ organization (Entra ID) account in Teams will reflect in Outlook and vice versa.

What’s Happened so far:

  • We have completed one round of migration of all Teams contacts to Outlook in January 2024.
  • As a result, users may see more contacts in Outlook, namely those created in Teams and potentially Skype for Business contacts (if enabled).
  • Existing Outlook contacts may also be enriched with additional details from corresponding Teams contacts.
  • Teams users can see Outlook contacts but cannot edit them inside Teams.

What’s Coming:

Users will gradually upgrade to the new unified experience from December 2024. The new experience will be enabled for each user across all endpoints (Desktop, Mobile, Devices etc.) simultaneously. Once the new experience is enabled for a user, they will see same set of contacts in Outlook and Teams. Any change in Outlook will reflect in Teams and vice versa.

All Teams contact changes (creations and edits) made since January will be included in the unified store. During creations, a small set of users may see duplicate contacts in the unified store. To help users navigate the transition, category label ‘Teams Conflict’ will be applied to duplicate contacts. This label will help users see any conflicts (duplicates or inconsistencies) that need their attention.

[When this will happen:]

This activity is expected to be completed for all active users by April 2025 tentatively. Once this activity is complete, users will work with a single contact list across Teams and Outlook.

[How this will affect your organization]

Once this change is complete, users will be able to see created contacts across both Outlook and Teams and vice versa.

[What you need to do to prepare]

Action Required: Update your organisation documentation and training materials to reflect the upcoming changes for the new unified contact experience.

You may consider updating your training and documentation as appropriate. If users wish to retain a snapshot of their existing contacts in Outlook, please encourage users to back-up their existing contacts using the export capability in Outlook.

(Updated) Microsoft Purview | Insider Risk Management: Granular trigger throttling
Category:Microsoft 365 suite
Nummer:MC788980
Status:stayInformed

Updated November 13, 2024: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

Coming soon, Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management will be rolling out public preview of granular trigger throttling limits.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 382130.

[When this will happen:]

Public Preview: We will begin rolling out late October 2024 (previously late August) and expect to complete by late January 2025 (previously late October).

General Availability: We will begin rolling out early March 2025 (previously late December) and expect to complete by late March 2025 (previously late January).

[How this will affect your organization:]

With this update, we are introducing more granular trigger throttling limits to isolate the impact of a surge in noisy trigger volumes and prevent other policies from being affected. This ensures that organizations can receive critical alerts without being throttled by these limits. By default, these throttling limits will be applied:

  • All sensitive triggers, including HR signals, Azure AD leavers, and custom triggers, will be limited to 15,000 per day per trigger.
  • All other triggers will be limited to 5,000 per day per trigger.

Additionally, the policy health warning messages will be enhanced to assist admins with appropriate permissions in effectively identifying and addressing noisy triggers.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

No action is needed from you to prepare for this rollout. You may want to notify your admins about this change and update any relevant documentation as appropriate.

Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks, such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Insider Risk Management enables customers to create policies based on their own internal policies, governance, and organizational requirements. Built with privacy by design, users are pseudonymized by default, and role-based access controls and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.

You can access the Insider Risk Management solution in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal.

Category:Microsoft Defender XDR
Nummer:MC912708
Status:planForChange

Updated November 13, 2024: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

In Microsoft Defender XDR, on the Settings > Identities page, we will retire the Alert notifications page starting mid-January 2025 (previously mid-November). We expect to complete by mid-January 2025 (previously mid-November).

[How this will affect your organization:]

As an alternative, please use the Incident email notifications page in Microsoft Defender XDR settings to create and manage all new and existing notification rules. This update will help streamline and enhance your notification experience in the Defender XDR portal.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

To ensure uninterrupted notifications, it is essential to transfer all existing notification settings to the Email Notifications page under Defender XDR settings. Please note that if incidents notifications are not set up through the XDR page, you will no longer receive alerts emails notifications after the deprecation date.

Category:Microsoft 365 suite
Nummer:MC931380
Status:planForChange

Updated November 13, 2024: We have updated the content. Thank you for your patience.

Coming soon to the Microsoft 365 admin center: Tenant restrictions v2 enables tenants to enhance security by limiting what users can access when they use an external account to sign in from your networks or devices. The Tenant restrictions v2 settings, included with cross-tenant access settings, are designed to address the security of cross-company exchange.

Authentication plane protection is supported by Microsoft Entra ID. This rollout enables data plane protection for the Microsoft 365 admin center. Learn more: Configure tenant restrictions – Microsoft Entra ID – Microsoft Entra External ID | Microsoft Learn

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-November and expect to complete by late December 2024.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Before this rollout: Admins are not able to limit what users can access when they use the Microsoft 365 admin center with an external account to sign in from their networks or devices.

After this rollout

  • Tenant restriction v2 (TRv2) can be used to prevent data exfiltration using a foreign identity.
  • TRv2 works by sending special signals to Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Account, and other Microsoft resources.
  • Tenant restrictions v2 settings will be off by default and available for admins to enable them.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

This rollout will happen automatically by the specified date with no admin action required before the rollout. You may want to notify your admins about this change and update any relevant documentation.

Review your current configuration to determine the impact for your organization.

This message applies to Teams town halls on Windows desktop, on the web, and on iOS/Android. This feature is available for town hall organizers with an active Teams Premium license.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 429538.

Power Automate – Copilot created flow regeneration feature
Category:Microsoft Power Automate
Nummer:MC933481
Status:stayInformed
On December 13, 2024, a new feature will be introduced that allows users to regenerate flows created by Copilot.

How does this affect me?
Previously, when using Copilot to create flows, makers would have to manually update their prompts to have a new flow created. This new feature introduces a ‘Regenerate’ button, which will enable Copilot to create a new variation of that flow without needing to edit the original prompt.

What do I need to do to prepare?
This message is for awareness and no action is required.
