Microsoft OneDrive: New naming convention for folder shortcuts

Nummer:MC1025216
Status:stayInformed

Dataverse – AI-powered Dataverse search enhancements
Category:Microsoft Dataverse
Nummer:MC1025275
Status:stayInformed
We are announcing an enhancement of the Dataverse search feature for Power Platform. This feature improves semantic indexing and enhances the knowledge experience and quality for agents in Copilot Studio, amongst other Power Platform experiences.

How does this affect me?
Starting April 7, 2025, Dataverse search will be enabled automatically for all environments that utilize Dataverse search or any of the AI-enabled experiences that use uploaded files or Dataverse tables to ensure business continuity across the platform. This change will also result in an increase in consumption of storage capacity for database and file storage.

What are the experiences enabled by Dataverse search?
Multiple features within the Power Platform are enabled via Dataverse search. These experiences include: Microsoft Copilot Studio Agents
  1. Add Files as a knowledge source
  2. Add Dataverse as a knowledge source
  3. Virtual Agent
Dynamics 365 Copilots
  1. Sales Copilot
  2. Customer Service Copilot
  3. Contact Center Copilot
  4. Field Service Copilot
Power Apps – Model-Driven Apps
  1. Copilot Chat
  2. Dataverse search
Experiences across the Power Platform
  1. In Power Apps / Power Automate
  2. In Microsoft Copilot Studio
  3. Power Apps / Power Automate – Custom AI Prompts
How will Dataverse search be reported?
Storage consumed by Dataverse search is already reported at the Environment level as a table called “RelevanceSearch”. Moving forward, this table will be available for both Database and File storage consumption and renamed to match accordingly:
  • “DataverseSearch-StructuredIndex” for Database storage indexing
  • “DataverseSearch-UnstructuredIndex” for Files storage indexing
RelevanceSearch can be viewed at the Environment report in Power Platform Admin Center or Capacity report. For more information see Dataverse capacity-based storage details.

Dataverse search will be charged at the same rate as DB Capacity and File Capacity, measured in GBs, based on the content storage consumption (that currently does not include the storage for the Dataverse indexed data).

Dataverse search counts towards the different storage entitlements you have in the tenant. It is recommended to have Dataverse search enabled so users can leverage the benefits of gen. AI experiences and enjoy a superior search experience in model-driven apps.

What action do I need to take?
This message is for awareness and no action is required.

More information about Dataverse search will become available via blog post late March and updated in FAQ for Dataverse search upon roll out, as well Enhance AI-powered experiences with Dataverse search soon.

Nummer:MC987329
Status:planForChange

Updated March 7, 2025: We have postponed this release to ensure the proper customer experience. The rollout timeline has been updated below. Thank you for your patience.

We are pleased to inform you that we will roll out two improvements to enhance compliance and security for voicemail messages in Microsoft Exchange.

This change is related to three products: Microsoft Teams calls, Microsoft Outlook/Exchange, and Microsoft Skype for Business calls. Results will be visible in Outlook/Exchange email messages.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We will begin rolling out early May 2025 and expect to complete by mid-June 2025.

General Availability (GCCH, DoD): We will begin rolling out mid-May 2025 and expect to complete by mid-June 2025.

[How this will affect your organization:]

1. The From: field of voicemail email messages will be updated to comply with the latest RFC standard, RFC 6854: Update to Internet Message Format to Allow Group Syntax in the From: and Sender Header Fields. According to this compliance standard, the Internet message format must always include an address in the From header field.

Example:

  • Before this rollout: +44 28 7584 5695 <442875845695>
  • After this rollout: +44 28 7584 5695 (Unverified) <[email protected]>

2. To strengthen trust and security in voicemails received from external PSTN calls and from federated tenants, Unverified and External tags will always be added to the From field of voicemail messages in the mailbox.

Voicemail message type Label
Voicemail messages from external PSTN callers that are found in Entra ID contacts External
Voicemail messages from federated tenant callers that are found in the federated Entra ID contacts External
Voicemail messages from external PSTN callers that are not found in Entra ID contacts Unverified
Voicemail messages from anonymous callers, for example Skype calls without a phone number Unverified

Note: This rollout applies to voicemail messages in Microsoft Exchange received from external PSTN calls and calls from federated tenants.

Example of the From field in voicemail message if PSTN caller was not found in Entra ID contacts:

  • Before this rollout: +44 28 7584 5695
  • After this rollout: +44 28 7584 5695 (Unverified)

Example of the From field in voicemail message if PSTN caller was found in Entra ID contacts:

  • Before this rollout: John Smith
  • After this rollout: John Smith (External)

Example of the From field in voicemail message for calls from federated tenant:

  • Before this rollout: John Smith
  • After this rollout: John Smith (External)

Example of the From field in voicemail message for anonymous Skype calls:

  • Before this rollout: Anonymous
  • After this rollout: Anonymous (Unverified)

(Updated) Microsoft Entra: New People administrator role
Category:Microsoft Entra
Nummer:MC992218
Status:planForChange

Updated March 7, 2025: We have updated the rollout timeline below. Thank you for your patience.

We are excited to announce the upcoming People administrator role in Microsoft Entra, designed to improve and streamline administrative capabilities in Microsoft 365. Developed from customer feedback, this role will provide dedicated permissions for managing people-related settings and profile photos without needing the high privileges of Global admin or User admin roles.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCC High, DoD): We will begin rolling out early February 2025 and expect to complete by late March 2025 (previously late February).

[How this will affect your organization:]

After this rollout, admins will be able to assign the new People admin role to users in:

What are the capabilities of the People admin role?

  1. Update profile photos for all users, including admins.
  2. Update people settings for pronouns and name pronunciation, Profile card settings, and photo update settings for all users.

Why is this new role a better solution?

The People admin role allows organizations to delegate people-related tasks more effectively and securely. By limiting access to necessary settings, it reduces risks associated with higher privilege roles and aligns with user jobs focused on people administration.

The People admin role will enable organizations to:

  • Delegate tasks without giving excessive permissions to other admins.
  • Access new features and configurations in the People domain more easily.
  • Maintain security by avoiding the use of highly privileged roles for routine tasks.

This role complements existing roles and enhances satisfaction with Microsoft administrative tools.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

We recommend admins:

  1. Review the People admin role documentation to understand its capabilities.
  2. Assess current roles to identify where the new role fits.
  3. Communicate changes to staff if needed, highlighting improved delegation and people-related access.
  4. Review your current configuration to determine the impact on your organization.

This rollout will happen automatically with no admin action required before the rollout. The People admin role will be available by default.

  • If location access is allowed, dynamic emergency calling policies will work as configured, and users enabled for Location Based Routing will be able to make and receive PSTN calls.
  • If location access is disallowed, several Teams Call Quality Dashboard metrics will be impacted, and Network and Location matching via BSSID from dynamic emergency calling policies will not work.
  • Users can still manually add their physical address for emergency calls via the Teams Calls app if an admin has enabled ExternalLookupMode for their users.

Immediately after consenting to allow location access at the operating system level (or for those who had previously consented to location access), both new and existing Teams for Work users will be presented with a new Teams app level location permission dialog.

Users must choose between “Allow all,” which grants Teams full location access used for emergency calls and for IT Admin insights and troubleshooting, or “Keep emergency only,” which restricts location usage to emergency calling purposes. It is important to note only end users who are configured for a dynamic emergency calling policy will see this version of the dialog. Users without ExternalLookUpMode enabled will see a slightly different version of this in-app consent dialog that excludes emergency calling. Users can modify their operating system or app level location detection preferences at any time via Teams settings under Privacy > Location. On fully managed devices, these settings will be ON by default and can only be disabled via the OS level location setting.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Please educate your users on these selections and what works best for your tenant.

  1. If you regularly use the Call Quality Dashboard or leverage Network and Location matching via BSSID, you may want to recommend that users allow location access for those options, otherwise a user’s location data will no longer flow through to these services.
  2. For emergency calling, you can communicate these changes by setting the emergency service disclaimer with a custom message that will display in the Calls App in Teams. Ensuring that end users have location turned on is crucial for proper functioning of emergency calls and their safety.
