(Updated) Support Update for SharePoint Framework Field Customizers in Lists and Document Libraries
Category:SharePoint Online
Nummer:MC1094051
Status:planForChange

After a detailed internal evaluation and the feedback which we have heard from the ecosystem, we no longer have plans to retire the field customers from lists and libraries

We are evaluating the retirement of the SharePoint Framework (SPFx) Field Customizers feature from SharePoint Lists and Document Libraries. In many cases, we recommend alternatives like using Column Formatters and disabling SPFx Field customizers. This would help with better performance with modern experience that is continuously updated.

[When this will happen:]

We are currently assessing the timelines and will update this post as plans progress. You can be assured that it will be communicated well in advance, with ample time to manage transition effectively.

[How this affects your organization:]

There is no impact to your organization as of now. In future depending on updated timelines, SharePoint Lists or Document Libraries with SPFx Field Customizers may get affected:

  • Field Customizers will no longer render custom code.
  • Column data will display using the default rendering based on column type.
  • Other SPFx extensions, such as Command Set Customizers and Application Customizers, will continue to function as expected.

We recommend transitioning to Column Formatting for visual customizations where possible. For scenarios requiring third-party code execution, continue using Command Set Customizers or Application Customizers.

[What you can do to prepare:]

Review your current use of Field Customizers and begin planning your transition.

Updated September 22, 2025: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

Introduction

Surveys Agent is a new Copilot agent in Microsoft 365 that helps users build, run, and analyze surveys with ease. It streamlines the entire survey lifecycle—from creation to analysis—enabling faster, insight-driven decisions with less manual effort.

When this will happen

  • Public Preview (Frontier): Beginning mid-August 2025
  • General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout is expected to begin in late September 2025 (previously early September) and complete by early October 2025 (previously mid-September).

How this affects your organization

Surveys Agent enables users to create and manage surveys directly through chat in Microsoft 365 Copilot. It simplifies survey creation, distribution, and analysis, reducing time spent on manual tasks. Surveys are powered by Microsoft Forms and adhere to existing admin policies for the Forms service.

This feature is off by default. Users can choose to install the agent from the Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Store under the “Built by Microsoft” section.

What you can do to prepare

To ensure users can access Surveys Agent in the Frontier preview program, admins can take the following steps:

  • Verify users or user groups have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
  • Ensure the setting “Allow the following users access to Copilot agents” is configured.
  • Ensure the tenant-level setting “Let users access Microsoft apps” is configured.
  • (Recommended/optional) Deploy Surveys Agent automatically to users or groups via the Deploy action in Integrated Apps.

Surveys Agent creates surveys via Microsoft Forms. Admins should review Microsoft Forms policies to ensure they align with organizational standards.

Once installed, users can:

  • Monitor responses and send reminders
  • Analyze results in chat or export to Excel

Updated September 22, 2025: We have updated the content Thank you for your patience.

[Introduction]

Agent in Viva Engage communities are now available in Public Preview. Community admins can add agents to communities to enhance knowledge sharing by drafting answers to questions without best or verified answers based on community content.

Shortly after public preview begins, we’ll be enhancing agents in communities with SharePoint grounding to improve the accuracy and relevance of AI-generated answers. This update allows the agent to use content from SharePoint sites that community members can access, helping ensure responses are contextually grounded and backed by trusted sources. Agents in communities will only draft answers with content that all community members have access to. You can set up your agent with before SharePoint grounding is available and add it later.

[When this will happen:]

  • Agents in communities Public Preview: Begins September 18th, expected to be complete by late September
  • SharePoint Grounding Public Preview (Worldwide): Begins late September 2025, expected to complete by early October 2025
  • General Availability (Worldwide): Begins late January 2026, expected to complete by late February 2026
[How this affects your organization:]
