Updated November 11, 2025: This capability has been cancelled for now. We recognize its importance and plan to reintroduce it as part of upcoming Copilot enhancements in PowerPoint at a later time. No admin action needed.

We’re introducing a new capability in Microsoft 365 Copilot for PowerPoint that allows users to reference Excel files when creating a slide. This enhancement helps users seamlessly reuse data from Excel to generate more informative and data-driven presentations.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap IDs 497537497538, and 497539.

When this will happen

General Availability (Worldwide): This capability has been cancelled for now.

How this will affect your organization

With this update, users can now reference an Excel file when selecting New Slide with Copilot” from the PowerPoint ribbon or Add a slide” from the Copilot button above the slide. This enables more efficient content creation by leveraging existing Excel data directly within PowerPoint.

Key details:

  • Users can reference one Excel file at a time when creating a slide.
  • The Excel file must be stored in OneDrive or SharePoint.
  • Recommended file size for optimal performance is 24MB.
  • Users can include a topic in their prompt to focus the slide content.
  • Copilot can generate slides that include charts or tables based on the Excel data.
  • This feature is available on web, Win32, and Mac platforms. There are no browser-specific limitations.

This feature is on by default and does not require admin configuration.

What you need to do to prepare

  • This feature requires the Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on license. It is not included in standard Microsoft 365 SKUs (e.g., E3/E5).
  • Available only to tenants with Microsoft 365 E3/E5 plus the Copilot license.
  • There are no admin controls to enable, disable, or scope this feature.
  • Users can reference a file by clicking the paperclip icon or typing a backslash to select a file.
  • Only one file can be referenced per slide. The file must be an Excel format and stored in OneDrive and SharePoint.

No admin action is required for this feature to become available. We recommend informing your users so they can take advantage of this new capability.

[Introduction]

As part of our ongoing efforts to simplify and modernize the Viva Connections experience, we will retire the Assignments and Courses adaptive card extensions (ACEs) for Education customers. The equivalent SharePoint dashboard webparts will also be retired. This change is intended to streamline the experience and reduce redundancy across platforms.

    • No reporting is available to identify which users are currently using these components.
What you can do to prepare:

  • No admin action is required.
  • Please notify your users about this change.
  • Update any internal documentation that references these components.
  • Share alternate capabilities with your users, if applicable.

Microsoft SharePoint: Retirement of IDCRL authentication protocol and enforcement of OpenID Connect and OAuth protocols
Category:SharePoint Online Microsoft OneDrive
Nummer:MC1184649
Status:planForChange

[Introduction:]

As part of the Microsoft Secure Future Initiative (SFI) and in alignment with the “Secure by Default” principle, we’re retiring the legacy IDCRL (Identity Client Run Time Library) authentication protocol in SharePoint Online and OneDrive for Business. This change helps strengthen your organization’s security posture by enforcing modern authentication standards—OpenID Connect and OAuth—which reduce exposure to outdated and vulnerable authentication methods.

[When this will happen:]

  • Starting January 31, 2026: Legacy client authentication will be blocked by default. Organizations may temporarily re-enable it using PowerShell until April 30, 2026.
  • Starting May 1, 2026: Legacy client authentication will be permanently blocked and cannot be re-enabled.

[How this affects your organization:]

Who is affected:

  • Organizations using clients, scripts, or applications that rely on the legacy IDCRL authentication protocol to access SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business.
What will happen:
  • Legacy authentication calls using IDCRL will be blocked by default starting January 31, 2026.
  • Temporary re-enablement is possible via PowerShell until April 30, 2026.
  • After May 1, 2026, IDCRL authentication will be permanently retired and cannot be re-enabled.
  • Applications using IDCRL will fail to authenticate unless updated to use modern protocols.

[What you can do to prepare:]

We recommend migrating from legacy authentication protocols to modern authentication as soon as possible.

[Compliance considerations:]
Question Answer
Does the change introduce or significantly modify AI/ML or agent capabilities that interact with or provide access to customer data? Yes. This change enables Microsoft 365 Copilot agents to query other agents for additional data, expanding the scope of AI-driven interactions with customer data.
Does the change allow a user to enable and disable the feature themselves? Yes. Users will be able to enable or disable acquired agents per conversation, giving them control over agent behavior.
Does the change include an admin control and can it be controlled through Entra ID group membership? Yes. Admins can configure which agents are available and which connected agents are permitted. These controls respect existing agent acquisition permissions, which can be scoped using Entra ID group membership.

(Updated) Microsoft Publisher will no longer be supported after October 2026
Category:Microsoft 365 apps
Nummer:MC716267
Status:planForChange

Updated November 11, 2025: We are updating this post to serve as a reminder of this change.

We are dedicated to providing our customers with the tools they need to achieve what matters, in their work and life. In order to focus on new benefits, we occasionally remove features and products.

In October 2026, Microsoft Publisher will reach its end of life. After that time, it will no longer be included in Microsoft 365 and existing on-premises suites will no longer be supported. Until then, support for Publisher will continue and users can expect the same experience as today.

As we look ahead to the retirement of Microsoft Publisher, we are exploring modern ways to achieve other common Publisher scenarios across applications like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Designer. We will update as we have more to share.

[When this will happen:]

October 13, 2026

[How this will affect your organization:]

You can continue to use Publisher with its current functionality until October 2026.

Support for the perpetual version of Publisher will end in October 2026, when Office LTSC 2021 reaches end of support. Microsoft 365 customers will not be able to access Publisher from that date forward.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

No action is required at this time. This notice is to allow you sufficient time to plan. We will share additional updates as the date approaches.
