(Updated) Microsoft Purview: New Purview Data Security Investigations (DSI) solution
Category:Microsoft Purview
Nummer:MC1047912
Status:stayInformed

Updated November 14, 2025: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

Microsoft Purview Data Security Investigations (DSI) is a new AI-powered solution that enables data security teams to identify incident-related data, conduct deep content analysis, and mitigate risk within one unified solution.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 485707.

[When this will happen:]

Public Preview: We will begin rolling out early April 2025 and expect to complete by mid-May 2025.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early October 2025 (previously early August) and expect to complete by early January 2026 (previously late October 2025).

[How this will affect your organization:]

DSI enables data security admins to efficiently identify incident-relevant content by searching their Microsoft 365 data estate to locate emails, Microsoft Teams messages, Microsoft Copilot prompts and responses, and documents.

After an admin scopes an investigation, DSI’s generative AI capabilities allow admins to gain deeper insights into the impacted data, revealing critical security risks and sensitive information. Investigative capabilities include the ability to categorize evidence, perform vector searches, and examine impacted data for security and sensitive data risks.

DSI visualizes correlations between investigation data, users, and their activities. To mitigate identified risks, DSI facilitates secure collaboration between partner teams. Post-investigation learnings can be used to refine existing policies to strengthen your organization’s security practices.

Get started with DSI on the overview page with information on enrollment and enabling RBAC (role-based access control):

(Updated) Changes to how users install Microsoft 365 apps from the Microsoft 365 Copilot app
Category:Microsoft 365 apps
Nummer:MC1062453
Status:planForChange

Updated June 24, 2025: The rollout of this feature has been delayed. In the meantime, the Microsoft 365 Copilot app will continue directing users to the My account portal for installations. A status update on the new modal dialog is expected in November.

The My account portal will be replaced by a new modal dialog within the Microsoft 365 Copilot app (formerly Office.com) on web and desktop. The new modal will support end user self-installs that are currently available on the My account portal (Office, Project, Visio, and Skype for Business).

[When this will happen:]

Targeted Release: We will communicate via Message center when we are ready to proceed.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will communicate via Message center when we are ready to proceed.

[How this will affect your organization:]

End users will be able to download their apps by accessing the modal dialog in Apps > Install apps > Install Microsoft 365 apps in the Microsoft 365 Copilot web and desktop app.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

If you allow users to self-install apps:

  • Please remove direct links to the My account portal (https://portal.office.com/account) in your self-install communications. Instead, please refer your users to the official Microsoft documentation for installing Office (Download, install or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on PC or Mac). This article will be updated to describe the new self-installs experience when it is released.

If you do not allow users to install apps:

Blocking Microsoft Admin Portals using Conditional Access Policies will no longer block self-installs. If you have used this setting to block self-installations, you will need to use one of the settings listed above instead.

Secure Boot playbook for certificates expiring in 2026
Category:Windows
Nummer:MC1185931
Status:stayInformed
Secure Boot helps ensure that only trusted software runs during the boot sequence. It uses cryptographic keys, known as certificate authorities (CAs), to validate that firmware modules come from a trusted source. After 15 years, the Secure Boot certificates that are part of many Windows systems will start expiring in June 2026. These certificates were originally issued in 2011. Many Windows PCs manufactured since 2024 already have updated (2023) certificates. For the remaining devices, we recommend that you start monitoring the progress of certificate updates today as well as prepare for and install new certificates on devices that aren’t automatically getting them through Windows updates. An initial set of tools and guidance is now available to support you in this effort.

When will this happen:
While Microsoft will deliver the new 2023 Secure Boot certificates through Windows monthly updates—with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) offering firmware updates to help ensure compatibility—you can proactively install the 2023 CAs before the 2011 CAs start expiring in June of 2026.

What you need to do to prepare:
Read the Secure Boot playbook for certificates expiring in 2026 for steps you can take today to help ensure your devices stay protected after June 2026. Specifically, you can now:
  • Inventory and prepare your environments for this change.
  • Monitor and check your devices for Secure Boot status.
  • Apply OEM firmware updates before Microsoft updates.
  • Plan and pilot your Secure Boot certificate deployments.
  • Use available tools to troubleshoot and remediate common issues.

If you’d like to deploy the new Secure Boot certificates yourself today, you can utilize registry keys, WinCS, or Group Policy. Soon, you’ll be able to use scalable MDM solutions, such as Microsoft Intune. We will provide an update when this method is available.
