Reflecting on 25 Years of SharePoint: The Foundation of Modern Work

It is hard to believe it has been 25 years since SharePoint first arrived. I still remember my first experience with the product in 2001. From that very first day, I was hooked, even though we all know the journey hasn’t always been without its struggles and hurdles.

The evolution has been nothing short of remarkable. Many of us remember the pivotal years of 2007 and 2010, which paved the way for BPOS (Business Productivity Online Suite)—the precursor to what we now know as Office 365 and Microsoft 365. Through every name change and architectural shift, SharePoint has remained the ‘base’ for everything we do.

We are now entering a new chapter where SharePoint isn’t just about storing files; it’s the intelligence layer for Copilot. This should be rolling out further with new AI-powered capabilities according to Microsoft, ensuring the platform remains relevant for the next 25 years.
