(Updated) Legacy Outlook clients retirement plan
Category:Exchange Online Microsoft 365 for the web Microsoft 365 apps
Nummer:MC801980
Status:planForChange

Updated June 18, 2024: This post does not refer, nor does it impact classic Outlook for Windows. For the latest timing update for the new Outlook for Windows, please read New Outlook for Windows: A Guide to Product Availability. We apologize for any confusion and thank you for your feedback.

Starting in mid-July, for organizations that use vanity domains and their users are on the following version of clients they will experience functionality diminishing:

  • Outlook for iOS versions prior to 4.2411,
  • Outlook for Android versions before 4.2342,
  • Outlook for Mac versions older than 16.73
  • Windows Mail and Calendar applications

We encourage users to switch to the new Outlook for Windows, and update to the newest versions of Outlook on iOS, Android, and Mac. Our ongoing development efforts and advanced security measures will be focused on these updated platforms.

Starting in mid-August, for Outlook on the web and Outlook.com:

  • If users are using an old browser, they will receive an error page, and prompt to get the newer version of browser to continue using Outlook on the web.
    • Internet Explorer
    • Microsoft Edge Legacy
    • New Microsoft Edge<=79
    • Chrome<=79
    • Safari <=13.1
    • Mozilla Firefox< =78
    • Opera <=76
  • The light version of Outlook on the web will also be retired.

[When this will happen:]

For Outlook iOS, Android, Mac and Windows Mail and Calendar Application, we’ll be gradually rolling this out to customers in mid-July 2024, and the roll out will be completed by late September 2024.

For Outlook on the web, we’ll be gradually rolling this out to customers in mid-August 2024, and the roll out will be completed by late October 2024.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Once this change has rolled out legacy Outlook clients will no longer be supported.

For Outlook iOS, Android, Mac and Windows Mail and Calendar Application, users will no longer be able to send or receive new emails when this change is applied.

For Outlook on the web, IsOptimizedForAccessibility parameter will no longer be supported in Set-CASMailbox Cmdlet for Exchange Online User. Outlook on the Web latest supports all the accessibility features. We will no longer redirect to OWA light via this configuration. If users are still on the older browsers, they will see an error page.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

We recommend you upgrade your clients from legacy Outlook clients to the latest version of Outlook clients for the latest features and security protections.

Microsoft Viva: Viva Insights home
Category:Microsoft Viva
Nummer:MC802697
Status:stayInformed

Coming soon to Microsoft Viva: Improvements to the Viva Insights design and leader reports. In Viva Insights, leaders are defined as users who have been assigned the group manager role and who have at least 4 direct and indirect reports or as defined by their admin. This message applies to Viva Insight on the Desktop, the web, and Android/iOS. This message applies to customers with a Viva Insights subscription.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 399427 and Roadmap ID 399426.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out late June 2024 and expect to complete by mid-July 2024.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Before this rollout: Viva Insights home was focused on highlighting metrics. We received feedback asking for more leader reports.

After this rollout:

Home page and navigation updates

We will update the Viva Insight home page and left navigation to highlight reports.

  • The left navigation will separate into two sections: Team insights and Your insights. The new reports will be under Team insights and the existing Wellbeing, Productivity, and Teamwork pages will be under Your insights. Insights about your team that was previously in Wellbeing, Teamwork, and Productivity pages will be moved to the new Team insights pages.
  • Our home page redesign will include new cards for new reports on external focus, new hire onboarding, and meeting cost and quality.
  • In the new Library page, users can access all metrics associated with existing reports. Users can also filter their metrics by sub-organizations, time periods, and peer benchmarks.

Employee engagement with leadership communications report

We will release a new out-of-the-box report on employee engagement with leadership communication. This report helps leaders understand the reach of their communications in their organization, and their employees’ engagement with the leaders’ emails, meetings, and shared files to better understand the effectiveness of different modes of communication.

Pulse survey as a recommendation action

Leaders can now send a Viva Pulse survey from leader reports to quickly gather employee sentiment feedback. A leader can take these Pulse-related actions:

  • Send a Pulse survey – Leaders can send a Pulse survey to ask their team about research and report findings. For new hires, Pulse leaders can choose from a set of research-backed questions.
  • View status of and results from a Pulse survey– Leaders can see the status of a Pulse survey, including if it is in draft, still awaiting responses, or has results ready for review.

These features are on by default. Admins can disallow the app in their organization if desired.

Microsoft Purview | Insider Risk Management: Adaptive Protection + Conditional Access will be GA
Category:Microsoft Purview
Nummer:MC802699
Status:stayInformed

Adaptive Protection integrated with Microsoft Entra ID Conditional Access will soon be generally available in Microsoft Purview | Insider Risk Management. The integration will allow organizations to set up policies to enforce Conditional Access actions (such as blocks) on users with insider risk levels in Adaptive Protection. For example, a Conditional Access policy with an Insider Risk Condition can block elevated risk users from all Microsoft 365 applications while allowing minor risk users to continue to access company resources. With this rollout, we will also change the default Insider Risk Conditional Access policy to block elevated risk users from all Microsoft 365 applications instead of all applications.

Organizations will need an Entra ID P2 license to use Adaptive Protection integrated with Conditional Access policies.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 388737.

[When this will happen:]

Public Preview: We began rolling out in March 2024 and completed by early June 2024.

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out early July 2024 and expect to complete by early August 2024.

Before this rollout: Adaptive Protection integrated with Purview DLP was not generally available.

If you configured the default Insider Risk Conditional Access policy during the Public Preview, your policy will remain unchanged.

The default state of this feature is off.

[What you need to do to prepare:]

Your organization will need to enable Adaptive Protection in Insider Risk Management and follow the setup instructions. If you do not already have an Entra ID P2 license, your organization will need to obtain one.

Microsoft Teams: Users will now be notified when their admin unblocks a requested app
Category:Microsoft Teams
Nummer:MC802703
Status:planForChange

In 2022, we introduced the ability for users to request apps to be unblocked from the App Store for Microsoft Teams. We notified admins about this request in Teams Admin Center. This update enabled an easier form of admin-user communication, wherein admins are notified about the apps that their users require to be more productive on Teams. We are improving this experience by introducing notifications for end users when their admin enables an app. Users can immediately install these requested apps and start engaging with them on Teams.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 389151

[When this will happen:]

Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out early July 2024 and expect to complete by mid-July 2024.

General Availability: We will begin rolling out mid-July 2024 and expect to complete by late July 2024.

[How this will affect your organization:]

Users will be notified when their admin approves their unblock app request to inform them that the app is available for them to install on Teams.
