Recap without saving transcript provides an alternative now for Copilot users to generate a meeting summary using live meeting context, in case where saving a meeting transcript or recording is not preferred or allowed.

This capability is intended for scenarios where organizations want AI‑generated recaps but have policies that limit or prohibit the retention of transcripts or recordings. When disabled, no AI recap is generated. Existing Copilot licensing and tenant‑level AI controls continue to apply.

This feature will be available to users with an M365 Copilot (Premium) license across platforms, including desktop (Windows and Mac), web, and mobile.

What will happen:

• Teams admin center – Tenant admins will have control to opt in or out for AI features (e.g. Copilot, Intelligent Recap) for the meeting under the tenant. This feature is controlled by AI toggle/setting in the admin center. If AI is disabled at the tenant level, this experience is not available.
• Meeting options (before meeting) – Meeting organizers with a Copilot license can enable or disable Recap without saving transcript in meeting options under Copilot and other AI before the meeting
• In-Meeting controls (during meeting) – Meeting organizers with a Copilot license can enable or disable Recap without saving transcript anytime during the meeting via the AI toggle (appears at top-left). Participants can see whether AI is being turned on/off, while participants cannot change this setting.
• Post-meeting AI summary – When enabled, Intelligent Recap will generate an AI summary even if recording and transcription are not turned on. Meeting attendees with Copilot license can view the AI summary after the meeting. No transcript or recording is saved as part of this experience.
• Storage – When enabled, a doc will be stored in organizer’s OneDrive for default 120days, and it will be configurable in admin center for longer/shorter days as needed.
• Deletion – For post-meeting AI summary, organizer can choose to delete the content from the Recap page, and it will result in the deletion of the doc in organizer’s OneDrive, and vice versa.

• If you want to opt out, disable the AI toggle in your tenant settings to prevent Recap without saving transcript from being used.

  • This capability is now available in GCC High, and DoD environments; it was previously available in Worldwide environments.
• Both the Filmstrip layout and multi-site news capabilities are available by default and are optional to use.

We’re improving the Frontier Admin Control by adding support for Entra ID groups when managing Frontier enrollment. This update helps administrators scale Frontier pilots more efficiently by aligning enrollment with existing access management practices and reducing the need to manage individual users.

• Admins can assign Frontier access using Entra ID groups in addition to individual users.

• Group-based enrollment supports managing pilot audiences without enabling Frontier for the entire tenant.
• A maximum of 10,000 enrolled users applies when using specific users and/or groups.
  • Admins will see a warning if adding a group causes the total enrolled user count to exceed this limit.
  • Admins must remove users or groups until the total enrollment is within the limit.
• Tenants enrolling All Users are not subject to the 10,000-user limit.
• There is no change for tenants already enrolling the entire organization.

To help security and compliance teams more easily correlate Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) activity with Microsoft Defender alerts, we’re enriching Microsoft Graph security APIs so DLP event (rule match) details can be retrieved alongside Defender alert data. This simplifies exporting data to SIEM tools, building automated workflows, and generating custom reports without needing to stitch together data from multiple APIs.

• This applies only to DLP-related Defender alerts (the DLP events query will not return results for non-DLP alerts).

What will happen:

Before this update:

Alert data is available through Microsoft Graph Security APIs, while DLP rule match event details are available through the Management API. Customers who need to correlate alerts with underlying DLP activity must retrieve data from multiple APIs and manually join the results.

With this update:

• Microsoft Graph will include DLP event data associated with Defender alerts.
• This enables simplified correlation and integration without relying on multiple APIs.
• There is no impact to user experience.

• Validate with a DLP alert in a test environment during Public Preview (late May–early June 2026) to confirm your parsing of the auditRecord JSON and your time-window logic.

Viva Engage will stop sending email notifications to frontline users (F1 and F3 licenses) who do not have an active Exchange mailbox. Previously, notifications could still be sent to users without provisioned mailboxes, resulting in repeated delivery retries, increased load on email systems, and in some cases delays to the delivery of important business communications.

This change reduces unnecessary email traffic, improves delivery efficiency, and helps ensure business-critical communications are delivered reliably and on time. Notifications through supported channels such as Microsoft Teams remain unaffected.

General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins mid-June 2026 and is expected to complete by early August 2026.

• Frontline users assigned F1 and F3 licenses without an active Exchange Online mailbox

What will happen:

• Viva Engage will no longer send email notifications to users without active Exchange mailboxes.
• Users with valid Exchange mailbox licenses will continue to receive email notifications as usual.
• Notifications delivered via Microsoft Teams or other supported channels are not impacted.
• The change is enabled by default and applies automatically.
• Organizations may see:
  • Reduced load on email gateways.
  • Fewer retry attempts for undeliverable messages.
  • Improved delivery reliability for critical emails.

To help organizations respond more quickly to external security threats, Microsoft Teams will allow users to report suspicious external users directly from Teams. These reports will surface in the Teams admin center, giving admins greater visibility into potentially risky interactions and enabling faster investigation and response. This enhancement will build on existing reporting capabilities and will use user signals as an additional layer of protection against phishing, impersonation, and social engineering attacks.

• Reporting will be supported across Teams experiences including chats, meetings, channels, and search results.
• When a user is reported, the submission will appear in the Teams admin center under Protection reports > User reported security submission report

  

• Admins will be able to review reported users and investigate potential phishing, impersonation, or other suspicious activity.
• Additional metadata will be available through report export to support investigation and response workflows.
• This feature will be enabled by default and will respect existing Teams messaging policies.

Admins may choose to take the following actions:

• Review current Teams messaging policies and confirm that the Report a security concern setting remains enabled.

Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management is introducing AI app selection for Generative AI app indicators, giving administrators more precise control over which AI applications will be evaluated when detecting Generative AI–related insider risk signals. This update will help organizations improve signal relevance, align monitoring with approved AI usage, and optimize pay‑as‑you‑go (PAYG) costs.

To improve performance and provide better visibility into query progress, we are updating the behavior of the ResultCount parameter for the Search-UnifiedAuditLog cmdlet in Microsoft Purview Audit.

Previously, the ResultCount parameter returned the total number of results expected from a query. With this update, ResultCount will display a running count of results as they are retrieved in real time.

We are also introducing a new boolean property, AuditSearchRequestMetadata.moreRecordsAvailable, which indicates whether additional records are still being retrieved.

Together, these updates provide administrators with improved transparency into audit log search progress and better support for script and automation scenarios.

This enables tenants to configure LDAP directories for their organization as well as enabling users to configure LDAP directories themselves. Once configured, users can find recipients’ public encryption certificates from the directories when sending encrypted email, improving secure collaboration with external partners. This is especially valuable for tenants who collaborate with external partners and rely on public/partner LDAP directories to store public S/MIME certificates of users.

Previously, embedded images were skipped during endpoint DLP scanning, creating a detection blind spot. With this update, embedded images are OCR-processed, helping improve data protection coverage and reduce risk of accidental data exposure.

What will happen:

Once OCR is enabled for your organization, DLP policies applied to endpoint devices will be able to scan images embedded inside Office documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and pdf files on Windows devices. This means:

• Sensitive data detection in embedded images: If a document contains an embedded image with sensitive information (such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or financial data), DLP policies can now detect that data and enforce configured actions (audit, block, or block with override).
• Closes a detection blind spot: Previously, embedded images were entirely skipped during endpoint DLP scanning. This update ensures those images are processed using OCR and evaluated against your DLP policies.
• Cost implications: Enabling OCR incurs additional costs based on the volume of images scanned. Costs are charged per image scanned via Azure AI Services. Organizations can monitor OCR costs through:
  • The OCR cost dashboard in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal under Data loss prevention → Overview
  • Cost Management + Billing in the Azure portal, filtered by your Azure AI Services resource

To take advantage of this feature, complete the following steps: 

1. Verify prerequisites:
   • Confirm Microsoft Sense Client version 10.8820.27904.1000 or later.
   • Run: MsSense.exe --version from C:\Program Files\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection.
   • Ensure Windows OS update KB5079473 is installed on endpoint devices.
2. Enable OCR in Microsoft Purview:
   1. Navigate to the Microsoft Purview compliance portal.
   2. Go to Data loss prevention → Overview → Data loss prevention settings.
   3. Under Optical Character Recognition (OCR), select Turn on OCR scanning.
   4. Select the appropriate Azure pay-as-you-go subscription and Azure AI Services resource.
   5. Select Save.
3. Review and update DLP policies:
   • Ensure policies include Devices as a location.
   • Consider testing with Test mode and policy tips before enforcing actions.
   • Verify sensitive information types are configured for detection in embedded images.
4. Set up billing and monitor costs:

• User storage quotas will be re-evaluated against license limits during the refresh process.
• Users whose OneDrive for Business storage usage exceeds their licensed quota will be placed into a read-only state, which temporarily restricts write access to existing SharePoint content until storage usage is remediated.
• This includes scenarios where:
  • An admin-set user quota exceeds the license allowance, or
  • A user with an EDU license exceeds their licensed storage limit.
• No changes are made for users who are within their licensed storage limits.

  • Review OneDrive storage usage across your organization to identify users whose usage exceeds their licensed quota.

  • Upgrade the user’s license to increase available storage, or
  • Work with the user to reduce storage usage to within licensed limits.
