(Updated) Microsoft Teams: AI meeting recap without transcript to meet compliance policies
Category:Microsoft Teams Microsoft Copilot (Microsoft 365)
Nummer:MC1275312
Status:planForChange

Updated May 14, 2026: We have updated the content. Thank you for your patience.

[Introduction]

Recap without saving transcript provides an alternative now for Copilot users to generate a meeting summary using live meeting context, in case where saving a meeting transcript or recording is not preferred or allowed.

This capability is intended for scenarios where organizations want AI‑generated recaps but have policies that limit or prohibit the retention of transcripts or recordings. When disabled, no AI recap is generated. Existing Copilot licensing and tenant‑level AI controls continue to apply.

This feature will be available to users with an M365 Copilot (Premium) license across platforms, including desktop (Windows and Mac), web, and mobile.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 558286.

[When this will happen:]

  • Targeted Release: We will begin rolling out early June 2026 (previously mid-May) and expect to complete by mid-June 2026 (previously late May).
  • General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out mid-June 2026 (previously early June) and expect to complete by late June 2026 (previously mid-June).

[How this affects your organization:]

Who is affected:

  • Microsoft Teams meeting organizers and participants with an M365 Copilot (Premium) license
  • Microsoft 365 administrators managing Copilot and AI controls

What will happen:

  • Teams admin center – Tenant admins will have control to opt in or out for AI features (e.g. Copilot, Intelligent Recap) for the meeting under the tenant. This feature is controlled by AI toggle/setting in the admin center. If AI is disabled at the tenant level, this experience is not available.
  • Meeting options (before meeting) – Meeting organizers with a Copilot license can enable or disable Recap without saving transcript in meeting options under Copilot and other AI before the meeting
  • In-Meeting controls (during meeting) – Meeting organizers with a Copilot license can enable or disable Recap without saving transcript anytime during the meeting via the AI toggle (appears at top-left). Participants can see whether AI is being turned on/off, while participants cannot change this setting.
  • Post-meeting AI summary – When enabled, Intelligent Recap will generate an AI summary even if recording and transcription are not turned on. Meeting attendees with Copilot license can view the AI summary after the meeting. No transcript or recording is saved as part of this experience.
  • Storage – When enabled, a doc will be stored in organizer’s OneDrive for default 120days, and it will be configurable in admin center for longer/shorter days as needed.
  • Deletion – For post-meeting AI summary, organizer can choose to delete the content from the Recap page, and it will result in the deletion of the doc in organizer’s OneDrive, and vice versa.

[What you can do to prepare:]

  • Review your organization’s AI and Copilot governance policies to determine whether this experience aligns with your compliance posture.
  • If you want to opt out, disable the AI toggle in your tenant settings to prevent Recap without saving transcript from being used.
  • Update internal guidance and helpdesk documentation to reflect that meeting recaps may be generated without recordings or transcripts.
  • Communicate this change to meeting organizers, especially in regulated environments.

[Compliance considerations:]

Compliance area Explanation
AI/ML interaction with customer data Copilot generates AI-based meeting recaps using live meeting context even when recording and transcription are not enabled. No meeting transcript or recording is saved.
New way for users to interact with generative AI Users can receive AI-generated Intelligent Recap without starting or saving a meeting recording or transcript.
Admin controls availableThis capability is governed by the existing tenant-level AI toggle. Disabling AI prevents Recap without saving transcript from being used.
User enable/disable capability Meeting organizers can enable or disable the feature before the meeting, and organizers or participants with Copilot licenses can toggle it during the meeting.
(Updated) Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention: New guided diagnostics experience for DLP

(Documentation links will be provided once public preview documentation is available.)

[Compliance considerations]

QuestionAnswer
Does the change introduce or significantly modify AI/ML or agent capabilities that interact with or provide access to customer data?Yes. The guided diagnostics experience includes Security Copilot-powered insights and recommendations for eligible tenants. These insights analyze existing DLP configuration data and diagnostic metadata to help administrators understand policy behavior, troubleshoot issues, and identify opportunities for policy optimization. No new customer content sources are introduced, and Copilot does not change DLP enforcement decisions.
Does the change alter how admins can monitor, report on, or demonstrate compliance activities (for example, in Microsoft Purview reporting or diagnostics)?Yes. The new guided diagnostics experience enhances how administrators can monitor and understand DLP policy evaluation, including visibility into evaluation order, matched conditions, and resulting actions. This improves troubleshooting and compliance validation workflows without changing audit logs or enforcement behavior.

Using groups to enable Frontier access in the Frontier Admin Control
Category:Microsoft 365 suite
Nummer:MC1309739
Status:stayInformed

[Introduction]

We’re improving the Frontier Admin Control by adding support for Entra ID groups when managing Frontier enrollment. This update helps administrators scale Frontier pilots more efficiently by aligning enrollment with existing access management practices and reducing the need to manage individual users.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in early June 2026 and is expected to complete by mid-June 2026.

[How this affects your organization:]

Who is affected:

  • Microsoft 365 administrators who manage Frontier access using the Frontier Admin Control.

What will happen:

  • Admins will continue to manage Frontier access from the Frontier Admin Control in the Microsoft 365 admin center.
  • Admins can assign Frontier access using Entra ID groups in addition to individual users.
  • Screenshot: Frontier admin control showing the option to assign access to specific users and groups:

    Frontier admin control.>

  • Group-based enrollment supports managing pilot audiences without enabling Frontier for the entire tenant.
  • A maximum of 10,000 enrolled users applies when using specific users and/or groups.
    • Admins will see a warning if adding a group causes the total enrolled user count to exceed this limit.
    • Admins must remove users or groups until the total enrollment is within the limit.
  • Tenants enrolling All Users are not subject to the 10,000-user limit.
  • There is no change for tenants already enrolling the entire organization.

[What you can do to prepare:]

  • No immediate action is required.
  • If you plan to use group-based enrollment:
    • Create or identify a dedicated Entra ID group for Frontier participants.
    • Add the group to the Frontier Admin Control instead of managing individual users.
    • Review group membership regularly to ensure the total enrolled users remain within the 10,000-user limit (if not using All Users).
  • Update internal admin documentation or pilot guidance, if applicable.

[Compliance considerations:]

This change introduces an admin control that can be managed through Entra ID group membership. No other compliance impacts were identified.

Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention – Enrich Defender alerts Graph API with DLP event data
Category:Microsoft Purview
Nummer:MC1309741
Status:stayInformed

[Introduction]

To help security and compliance teams more easily correlate Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) activity with Microsoft Defender alerts, we’re enriching Microsoft Graph security APIs so DLP event (rule match) details can be retrieved alongside Defender alert data. This simplifies exporting data to SIEM tools, building automated workflows, and generating custom reports without needing to stitch together data from multiple APIs.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 558681.

[When this will happen:]

  • Public Preview: Rollout begins in late May 2026 and is expected to complete early June 2026.
  • General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins in late June 2026 and is expected to complete early July 2026.

[How this affects your organization:]

Who is affected:

  • Admins, security engineers, and developers who use Microsoft Graph Security APIs to retrieve Defender alerts and/or Purview DLP event data for reporting, investigations, SIEM integration, or automation.
  • This applies only to DLP-related Defender alerts (the DLP events query will not return results for non-DLP alerts).

What will happen:

Before this update:

Alert data is available through Microsoft Graph Security APIs, while DLP rule match event details are available through the Management API. Customers who need to correlate alerts with underlying DLP activity must retrieve data from multiple APIs and manually join the results.

With this update:

  • Microsoft Graph will include DLP event data associated with Defender alerts.
  • This enables simplified correlation and integration without relying on multiple APIs.
  • There is no impact to user experience.

The following table shows the combined data available through this enhancement:

Common Alert Data (Already present in Graph API) Common Event Data (Present in all events)
Alert ID Event ID
Incident ID User ID
Status Workload
Severity Event time
Classification Operation
Assigned to Policy details (ID, name, rule, action)
Creation time Sensitive info types (ID, counts, confidence, values)
Last update time Trainable classifier
Resolve date time User override
First activity time / Last activity time

Admin experience (high level flow):

Step 1: Fetch Defender alerts using the alerts_v2 Graph API. Learn more: List alerts_v2 | Microsoft Learn.

Endpoint: https://graph.microsoft.com/beta/security/alerts_v2/{alert-id}

From the response, capture:

  • alertCorrelationId (DetectorId)
  • startDateTime (firstActivityDateTime)
  • endDateTime (lastActivityDateTime)

Note: Alert must be a DLP alert.

Screenshot: Example response from the alerts_v2 Graph API showing a Defender DLP alert and correlation details:

Screenshot of Microsoft Graph Explorer displaying a successful alerts_v2 API request and JSON response for a Defender DLP alert, including alert identifiers, activity timestamps, and correlation information.

Step 2: Query DLP event data using the correlation details.

Endpoint: https://graph.microsoft.com/beta/security/dlpAlertEvent

Example filter: $filter=alertCorrelationId eq '{alertCorrelationId}' and startDateTime ge {startDateTime} and endDateTime le {endDateTime}

The response returns events where auditRecord contains the event JSON.

[What you can do to prepare:]

No action is required if you don’t use Graph APIs for alert/event export or automation.

If you do use these APIs, we recommend the following:

  • Update SIEM connectors / scripts / playbooks that currently join data from Graph + Management APIs, so they can use the enriched Graph experience for correlation.
  • Validate with a DLP alert in a test environment during Public Preview (late May–early June 2026) to confirm your parsing of the auditRecord JSON and your time-window logic.

Prerequisites

Baseline access: Users must have the Security Reader role to access alerts and events via the API.

  • SecurityEvents.Read.All
  • SecurityAlerts.Read.All
  • CustomTags.Read.All

Note:

  • If a user has the Security Reader role and calls the API, they will receive output without sensitive information
  • If the user also has the Data Classification Content Viewer role (Purview RBAC), the output will include sensitive information.

[Compliance considerations:]

Area Explanation
Alters how existing customer data is accessed Introduces a new Microsoft Graph API method to retrieve DLP event (rule match) data alongside Defender alerts, provided simpler way of accessing and correlating existing data.
Alters admin monitoring/reporting capabilities Enables simplified export and correlation of DLP alert and event data, improving SIEM integration and compliance reporting workflows.
Supports third-party integrations The enriched API is designed to integrate with SIEM and other external tools, enabling automated workflows and data export to third-party systems.
Admin control and access governance Access is governed by Graph permissions and Purview RBAC roles; while configurable, no new dedicated admin toggle is introduced.

Viva Engage: Email updates for frontline users without an active Exchange mailbox
Category:Microsoft Viva
Nummer:MC1309743
Status:stayInformed

[Introduction]

Viva Engage will stop sending email notifications to frontline users (F1 and F3 licenses) who do not have an active Exchange mailbox. Previously, notifications could still be sent to users without provisioned mailboxes, resulting in repeated delivery retries, increased load on email systems, and in some cases delays to the delivery of important business communications.

This change reduces unnecessary email traffic, improves delivery efficiency, and helps ensure business-critical communications are delivered reliably and on time. Notifications through supported channels such as Microsoft Teams remain unaffected.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout begins mid-June 2026 and is expected to complete by early August 2026.

[How this affects your organization:]

Who is affected:

  • Frontline users assigned F1 and F3 licenses without an active Exchange Online mailbox
  • Microsoft 365 admins managing Viva Engage and Exchange licensing

What will happen:

  • Viva Engage will no longer send email notifications to users without active Exchange mailboxes.
  • Users with valid Exchange mailbox licenses will continue to receive email notifications as usual.
  • Notifications delivered via Microsoft Teams or other supported channels are not impacted.
  • The change is enabled by default and applies automatically.
  • Organizations may see:
    • Reduced load on email gateways.
    • Fewer retry attempts for undeliverable messages.
    • Improved delivery reliability for critical emails.

Microsoft Purview: Update to ResultCount parameter in the Search-UnifiedAuditLog cmdlet
Category:Microsoft Purview
Nummer:MC1310672
Status:planForChange

[Introduction]

To improve performance and provide better visibility into query progress, we are updating the behavior of the ResultCount parameter for the Search-UnifiedAuditLog cmdlet in Microsoft Purview Audit.

Previously, the ResultCount parameter returned the total number of results expected from a query. With this update, ResultCount will display a running count of results as they are retrieved in real time.

We are also introducing a new boolean property, AuditSearchRequestMetadata.moreRecordsAvailable, which indicates whether additional records are still being retrieved.

Together, these updates provide administrators with improved transparency into audit log search progress and better support for script and automation scenarios.

[When this will happen]

  • General Availability (Worldwide, GCC): We began rolling out in mid-May 2026 and expect to complete by late May 2026.
  • General Availability (GCC High, DoD): We will begin rolling out in early June 2026 and expect to complete by late June 2026.

[How this affects your organization]

Who is affected

  • Administrators who use Microsoft Purview Audit
  • Administrators running the Search-UnifiedAuditLog cmdlet in PowerShell
  • Organizations with scripts or automation that rely on audit log search results

What will happen

  • The ResultCount parameter will now display a running count of results as they are retrieved during query execution.
  • A new boolean property, AuditSearchRequestMetadata.moreRecordsAvailable, will indicate whether additional records are still being retrieved.
  • While the query is running:
    • ResultCount shows the number of records retrieved so far.
    • moreRecordsAvailable is set to true.
  • When the query completes:
    • ResultCount reflects the final total number of results.
    • moreRecordsAvailable is set to false.
  • This feature is enabled by default.
  • There is no change to audit log data or retention.
  • Existing scripts that rely on ResultCount representing a final total before completion may require updates.

[What you can do to prepare]

  • Review existing scripts and automation that rely on ResultCount to determine total results.
  • Update scripts to use AuditSearchRequestMetadata.moreRecordsAvailable to confirm when queries are complete.
  • Adjust pagination or query logic to incorporate a check for AuditSearchRequestMetadata.moreRecordsAvailable to reliably determine whether more records remain.
  • Test audit log searches and automation during the rollout window from mid-May through late May 2026.
  • If you run Search-UnifiedAuditLog manually in PowerShell and review results interactively, no changes are needed. You will benefit from improved real-time progress visibility.

Learn more:

If you have questions or need assistance, contact Microsoft Support.

[Compliance considerations]

QuestionAnswer
Does the change alter how existing customer data is processed, stored, or accessed?Yes. The change modifies how audit search results are reported during execution by providing incremental counts instead of a final total upfront.
Does the change alter how admins can monitor, report on, or demonstrate compliance activities?Yes. Administrators gain improved visibility into audit search progress through real-time result reporting, which can enhance monitoring workflows.

Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention: Optical character recognition for images in Office and PDFs on Windows
      Category:Microsoft Purview
      Nummer:MC1310681
      Status:stayInformed

      [Introduction]

We are introducing optical character recognition (OCR) scanning support for Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention (DLP) on Windows endpoint devices. This enhancement enables DLP policies to detect sensitive information within images embedded inside Office documents and PDF files.

Previously, embedded images were skipped during endpoint DLP scanning, creating a detection blind spot. With this update, embedded images are OCR-processed, helping improve data protection coverage and reduce risk of accidental data exposure.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 381750.

      [When this will happen:]

      • General Availability (Worldwide): Rollout will begin in mid-May 2026 and is expected to complete by late May 2026.

      [How this affects your organization:]

      Who is affected:

      • Admins managing Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention
      • Organizations using Endpoint DLP on Windows devices
      • Users working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF files on Windows endpoints

      What will happen:

Once OCR is enabled for your organization, DLP policies applied to endpoint devices will be able to scan images embedded inside Office documents (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and pdf files on Windows devices. This means:

      • Sensitive data detection in embedded images: If a document contains an embedded image with sensitive information (such as credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, or financial data), DLP policies can now detect that data and enforce configured actions (audit, block, or block with override).
      • Closes a detection blind spot: Previously, embedded images were entirely skipped during endpoint DLP scanning. This update ensures those images are processed using OCR and evaluated against your DLP policies.
      • Cost implications: Enabling OCR incurs additional costs based on the volume of images scanned. Costs are charged per image scanned via Azure AI Services. Organizations can monitor OCR costs through:
        • The OCR cost dashboard in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal under Data loss prevention → Overview
        • Cost Management + Billing in the Azure portal, filtered by your Azure AI Services resource

[What you can do to prepare:]

To take advantage of this feature, complete the following steps:

      1. Verify prerequisites:
        • Confirm Microsoft Sense Client version 10.8820.27904.1000 or later.
        • Run: MsSense.exe --version from C:\Program Files\Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection.
        • Ensure Windows OS update KB5079473 is installed on endpoint devices.
      2. Enable OCR in Microsoft Purview:
        1. Navigate to the Microsoft Purview compliance portal.
        2. Go to Data loss prevention → Overview → Data loss prevention settings.
        3. Under Optical Character Recognition (OCR), select Turn on OCR scanning.
        4. Select the appropriate Azure pay-as-you-go subscription and Azure AI Services resource.
        5. Select Save.
      3. Review and update DLP policies:
        • Ensure policies include Devices as a location.
        • Consider testing with Test mode and policy tips before enforcing actions.
        • Verify sensitive information types are configured for detection in embedded images.
      4. Set up billing and monitor costs:
        • Configure OCR billing before enabling the feature.
        • Review the OCR cost dashboard in Purview after enabling.
      5. Assign appropriate roles:
        • Compliance Data Administrator
        • Compliance Administrator
        • Information Protection

SharePoint Online: Storage quota enforcement updated to align with license limits
      Category:SharePoint Online
      Nummer:MC1310684
      Status:preventOrFixIssue

      [Introduction]

We’re updating the way SharePoint Online enforces user storage quotas to ensure they are consistently aligned with license entitlements. This change fixes an issue where user-specific storage limits could be incorrectly applied during quota refreshes, which could result in inaccurate storage enforcement. These updates help ensure predictable storage behavior and improve reliability for admins managing storage at scale.

      [When this will happen]

General Availability (Worldwide, GCC, GCCH, and DoD): We will begin rolling out in late May 2026 and expect to complete in June 2026.

      [How this affects your organization]

      Who is affected

      • Microsoft 365 tenants using SharePoint Online
      • Users who are currently over the OneDrive for Business storage quota allowed by their assigned license
      • Admins who have set user-specific storage limits above licensed entitlements

      What will happen

      • User storage quotas will be re-evaluated against license limits during the refresh process.
      • Users whose OneDrive for Business storage usage exceeds their licensed quota will be placed into a read-only state, which temporarily restricts write access to existing SharePoint content until storage usage is remediated.
      • This includes scenarios where:
        • An admin-set user quota exceeds the license allowance, or
        • A user with an EDU license exceeds their licensed storage limit.
      • No changes are made for users who are within their licensed storage limits.

[What you can do to prepare]

      • Identify users exceeding licensed storage limits
        • Review OneDrive storage usage across your organization to identify users whose usage exceeds their licensed quota.
        • Microsoft will provide a PowerShell script to assist with this assessment. A link to the script will be added to this message when available.
      • Take corrective action for affected users. For users exceeding their licensed storage limits:
        • Upgrade the user’s license to increase available storage, or
        • Work with the user to reduce storage usage to within licensed limits.
      • Inform your helpdesk and SharePoint admins about this change so they can support users who may be placed into a read-only state.
      • If all users are within their licensed storage quotas, no action is required.

Power Platform admin center – Information regarding the retirement of Power Platform Security Score (Preview)
      Category:Power Platform
      Nummer:MC1310690
      Status:planForChange
On May 29, 2026, we are retiring the Security Score (Preview) feature from the Security > Overview page in the Power Platform admin center. The security score and its qualitative rating (Low, Medium, High) will no longer be available.

      How does this affect me?
The Security Score (preview) provided a qualitative measurement (Low, Medium, High) of your organization’s security posture across Power Platform and Dynamics 365 environments. It calculated a percentage-based score reflecting how many recommended security features, such as IP firewall, tenant isolation, environment security groups, and auditing, were enabled across your environments.

      After May 29, 2026:
      • The security score and its qualitative rating will no longer appear on the Security > Overview page.
      • Recommendations generated from the security score calculation will no longer be displayed.
      • The Security > Overview page will remain available but will no longer include the score or recommendation sections.
      • All other Security Hub capabilities, including Data Protection & Privacy, Identity & Access Management, Compliance, and proactive policy management, are not affected and continue to be available.
Please note that, because the security score was a preview feature, it was not intended for production use and was subject to change under the supplemental terms of use for Microsoft previews.

What do I need to do to prepare?
The retirement of this preview feature does not affect your existing security configurations or policies. We recommend updating any of your internal documentation or training materials that reference the Power Platform security score.

If your organization relied on the security score for reporting or compliance tracking, we recommend transitioning to the following alternatives:
      • Microsoft Secure Score in the Microsoft 365 Defender portal, which provides a comprehensive security posture assessment across your Microsoft 365 environment.
      • Environment-level security settings in the Power Platform admin center, where you can continue to configure and monitor individual security features such as IP firewall, tenant isolation, data policies, and environment security groups.
      • Managed Environment governance controls, which provide policy enforcement including solution checkers, sharing limits, and access controls.
