(Updated) Microsoft Viva Engage: Flexible targeting of Storyline Announcements
Category:Microsoft Viva
Nummer:MC1183013
Status:stayInformed

Updated May 15, 2026: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

We’re introducing more flexible and precise audience targeting in Viva Engage, starting with Storyline Announcements. This update allows leaders and their delegates to define a custom audience at the time of posting—without relying on pre-configured Leader Audiences. Audiences can include organizational attributes (such as reporting structure, country, department, job title), existing groups (Microsoft 365 Groups, DLs, SGs), or individual users by name. This flexibility enables more timely, targeted communication, helping leaders reach the right people with the right message. Notifications and delivery channels (such as Teams, email) will continue to follow existing Storyline Announcement behavior, ensuring a seamless experience for recipients.

This feature is ideal for leaders who want to tailor communications to specific departments, locations, or existing groups, enhancing relevance and engagement across the organization.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 499895.

[When this will happen:]

  • Public Preview (Worldwide): Begins mid-November 2025 and completes by mid-March 2026 (previously early February).
  • General Availability (Worldwide): Begins July 2026 (previously late May) and completes by end of July 2026 (previously end of June).

[How this affects your organization:]

Who is affected: Leaders and delegates using Viva Engage Storyline Announcements in tenants enrolled in public preview.

What will happen:

  • This capability is being introduced as part of the public preview for Viva Engage. During this phase, leaders and their delegates can actively experiment with flexible audience targeting for Storyline Announcements—defining a custom audience at the time of posting, rather than relying solely on pre‑configured Leader Audiences.
  • Audiences can include organizational attributes (such as reporting structure, country, department, job title), existing groups (Microsoft 365 Groups, DLs, SGs), or individual users.
  • Notifications and delivery channels (Teams, email, Viva Engage Inbox) remain unchanged for recipients.
  • No dependency on IT or advance audience setup—leaders can act immediately when communication needs arise.
  • Available only in public preview; functionality and targeting options may evolve before general availability.
  • Admins should ensure organizational attributes in Entra ID or Organizational Data in Microsoft are accurate to support successful targeting.
  • Available platforms: Desktop and web.
  • Licensing requirements: This feature requires a premium license available through Viva or Communications and Communities (C&C). Availability may vary depending on your organization’s Microsoft 365 licensing agreement.

[What you can do to prepare:]

No admin action is required for rollout. To prepare, you may want to:

  • Validate organizational attributes (reporting structure, country, department, role, job title) in Microsoft Entra ID or Organizational Data in Microsoft.
  • Confirm leader and delegate assignments to ensure the right people can use Storyline Announcements and the new targeting control.

(Updated) Viva Engage: Community feeds improvements
Category:Microsoft Viva
Nummer:MC1187781
Status:stayInformed

Updated May 15, 2026: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

[Introduction:]

We’re introducing a simpler way to view conversations in Viva Engage communities, organized by recent posts rather than recent activity. This new view is designed to make it easier for users to follow discussions and will be available as an option, alongside the current system, for those who prefer sorting by recent activity and filtering to new conversations only.

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 513275.

[When this will happen:]

General Availability (Worldwide): We will begin rolling out in July 2026 (previously May).

[How this will affect your organization:]

This change should align better with how people expect to browse and engage with content in their communities, while still preserving the triage flow for those who prefer it.

Who is affected: All Viva Engage users in your organization.

Current experience:

  • Communities default to “new” and “recent activity” if there’s any new content (posts or replies).
  • If there’s no new content, the feed falls back to “all.”
  • Unread indicators on content only exist in the “new” feed.

New experience:

  • The feature will be ON by default.
  • Communities will default to “all” and “recent posts”:
  •  user settings

  • Unread indicators will exist in both the “new” and “all” feeds.
  • A sticky user preference will be introduced:
    • If someone changes the feed (new/all) or sort order (recent posts/recent activity), we will maintain that setting across their communities.
    • If someone picks “new” and there’s no new content in the next community, we will fall back to “all” for that community visit, but “new” will remain the preference for that user.

[What you can do to prepare:]

      No action is required.

(Updated) Purview Communication Compliance: Temporary delays in processing due to planned infrastructure migration
      Category:Microsoft Purview
      Nummer:MC1214183
      Status:stayInformed

Updated May 15, 2026: We have updated the timeline. Thank you for your patience.

      [Introduction]

Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance is undergoing an infrastructure upgrade from January 5 to June 15, 2026, causing temporary processing delays, intermittent errors, and possible outdated report data. Although this migration is planned outside of normal business hours, some production clusters may experience higher loads, potentially causing brief delays in downstream processing. Brief delays in processing may occur during this migration, but no data will be lost.

No action is required, but admins should inform teams about these short-term impacts.

      [When this will happen:]

This migration will begin January 5, 2026, and end June 15, 2026 (previously May 15).

      [How this affects your organization:]

      Who is affected:
Admins managing Microsoft Purview Communication Compliance policies and review workflows.

      What will happen:

      • Updates to policy insights and aggregated counts (New pending today, Total pending, Total resolved) may occur at a slower pace than usual.
      • Intermittent errors may occur when reviewing flagged messages.
      • Brief delays may be observed between receiving an alert notification and accessing messages for review.
      • Certain report views may display outdated data until backlog processing is complete.
      • Some export functions, such as exporting reports and files, might be temporarily unavailable.
      • No data loss will occur—only temporary slowdowns in processing times.
      • Users may experience reduced responsiveness and intermittent instability in the experience.

This maintenance is scheduled outside of normal business hours to minimize impact. However, global organizations may experience some overlap with active hours.

[What you can do to prepare:]

      • No action is required from administrators; the upgrade will be implemented automatically.
      • We recommend informing your administrative and compliance teams about these possible short-term delays.
      • If needed, update internal documentation to reflect potential temporary limitations.

      [Introduction]

To support more effective in-person collaboration, Microsoft Teams is expanding AI-powered meeting notes with the Facilitator agent to Teams Rooms on Windows. This enhancement allows teams meeting in a physical room to capture real-time notes, decisions, and action items—without requiring a scheduled or hybrid meeting. The experience is designed to ensure notes are securely stored in your tenant while no data remains on the room device after the meeting ends.

        user settings

      • After the meeting, notes can be viewed and edited by participants with access via the meeting recap in the meeting chat on the Teams desktop client.:
      • If no participant was added during the note-taking session via Access notes, notes are deleted automatically.

      Default state:

      QuestionAnswer
Does the change store new customer data, and if so, where, and is the data cached or permanently stored?Yes. Meeting notes generated by Facilitator are stored in tenant‑owned SharePoint Embedded storage. No meeting data is stored or cached on the Teams Rooms device after the meeting ends.
Does the change alter how existing customer data is processed, stored, or accessed (for example, documents, emails, or chats)?Yes. Meeting audio and transcription data are processed to generate AI‑powered meeting notes, including summaries, decisions, and action items. Access to the notes occurs through the meeting recap in the meeting chat on Teams desktop client.
Does the change introduce or significantly modify AI/ML or agent capabilities that interact with or provide access to customer data?Yes. The Facilitator agent uses AI to generate real‑time meeting notes, summaries, decisions, and action items based on in‑person meeting content.
Does the change provide users a new way of interacting with generative AI, and if so, how?Yes. Users can initiate AI‑generated meeting notes during an in‑person meeting by selecting “Take notes” on the Teams Rooms console.
